State Traditions Thirsty Thursday: Smoked Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is one of the classic American cocktails. Lot of different bars have put their own spin on it over the years. Some use rum instead of whiskey or bourbon, others use different syrups rather than sugar. Here's a version I was first introduced to at The Pearl Hotel down on 30A in Florida.

Recipe:

  • First you'll need a cedar plank and a blow torch. I use a Bernzomatic.
  • Burn a small section of the cedar plank and cover with the glass.
  • In a separate glass mix
  • 3-4 Dashes of Angostura Bitters.
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 oz of Bourbon
  • Stir with ice.
  • Transfer to Smokey Glass.
