State Traditions Thirsty Thursday: Spring Break Edition. Rum Runner

Each week we highlight a different drink from a state or region. This week we're making a Florida Keys classic The Rum Runner in celebration of Spring Break.

The Rum Runner is synonymous with the beach and warm weather. The Rum Runner started in the Florida Keys when a bartender needed to get rid of some excess inventory before accepting a shipment the next day. So he did what any logical person would do and threw all of his rum and some juice into a bowl and served it to his customers.

The Rum Runner is a great beach drink because it goes down so smooth due to the fruit juices. But don't forget you've got three different rums and a liqueur in there that can very easily sneak up and lead to a nasty hangover the next day. Doesn't matter where you go for Spring Break or Summer vacation, the Rum Runner pairs perfectly.

Recipe:

  • 1 oz Coconut Rum
  • 1 oz Spiced Rum
  • 1 oz Banana Liqueur
  • 1.25 oz Orange Juice
  • 1.25 oz Pineapple Juice
  • Shake and Serve Over Ice
  • Last but not least add a 151 Proof Rum Floater to finish it off.
