State Traditions Thirsty Thursday: How to Make a Yellowhammer

Welcome to our first Thirsty Thursday!

Each week we highlight a different drink from a state or region. This week we're starting with an Alabama classic that originated in Tuscaloosa but has become famous nationwide.

The Yellowhammer is a sneaky cocktail. Don't let the sweetness of the fruit juices fool you, this thing packs a strong punch and goes down smooth. It can be a recipe for disaster if you start too early for a late kickoff.

The drink is so popular that Gallete's where the drink originated serves more than 5,000 during home games, and even more than that for big rivalries.

RECIPE

  • 2 oz Coconut Rum
  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Amaretto
  • 7 oz Pineapple Juice
  • 4 oz Orange Juice
  • Shake and Serve Over Ice in 20 oz Cup
